What replaced HEC-GeoRAS for terrain processing?

This is an outdated question – but what replaced the HEC-GeoRAS terrain processing process? I remember using the HEC-GeoRAS tools in ArcGIS Pro and haven’t had to use them for a several years now because I haven’t had to process terrains for building models from scratch. But now I am getting to where I need to do that again, but it looks like HEC-GeoRAS is no longer a thing. I know I can go in on RAS Mapper and burn in the bridge lines etc., but what about all the fill sinks etc. steps? How is that usually done now? Thank you!

Yes, RAS Mapper is the replacement. I believe you can still use GeoRAS if you like some of its features, but the normal workflow is to now use RAS Mapper to build your geometry.

Short answer: you can use Mapper in HEC-RAS 5.x and 6.x.

HEC-RAS has had a native GIS for 10 years. Mapper facilitates assembling terrain and terrain modifications and facilitates development of 1D and 2D hydraulic models, cutting cross-sections more cleanly than HEC-GeoRAS ever did for 1D. The HEC-GeoRAS ArcMap extension was only supported through about ArcMap 10.3, and ArcMap itself is no longer supported.

HEC-RAS 2025 moved from alpha to beta development phases earlier in 2026. At this point I think it’s advisable to look towards where HEC-RAS heading.
