Vince MoodyParticipant
I’ve looked into the Windows Media Encoder (which is free), though I haven’t had much need for it yet so can’t speak to its efficacy.
Vince MoodyParticipantI encountered this error a while back, so my recollection might be a little fuzzy…
If I recall, I had the option selected to import the landuse for only the active view or maybe the limits of the model geometry. This told the program that I wanted to clip the dataset I was importing, and that’s what made it blow up; like the program was trying to do too many things at once and didn’t like it.
To resolve this, I clipped the landuse dataset externally (i.e. within GIS) and then imported to RAS Mapper, leaving that clipping option unselected.
Vince MoodyParticipantNot sure what the issues are. I’ve ran it fine on windows 10 on my home laptop. Though, I haven’t used it nearly as extensively there as on my windows 7 desktop.
Vince MoodyParticipantHave you double checked your cross sections stationing/naming?
Vince MoodyParticipantYou have some cross sections that are drawn backwards. In the geometry editor, right click and select View Options, and turn on cross section direction arrows. Once the offending cross sections are found, left click on the sections and click “Reverse XS Stationing and Cut Lines”.
Vince MoodyParticipantYou could try adding some additional flow to keep the sections from going dry. Generally, a thousand cfs is insignificant when compared to the magnitude of flow from a dam break scenario. There are a few other things you could try, but I’ve used that approach numerous times.
Vince MoodyParticipantScott, send me your model and I’ll take a look.

I gave it a shot and had a hard time getting it to recognize the projection for a georeferenced jpeg as well. Not sure if I’m missing something either, but I know it works for .img and .tif, which use a .prj file. Could you convert your filetype for your background image to one of these formats?
Vince MoodyParticipantIf you send me your model I’ll take a look at it.

Add the layer in Mapper, and in the Geometry Editor you can turn each layer on or off by clicking the Background Pictures button (looks like a quad sheet on the far right).
Vince MoodyParticipantI think you should send your dataset to HEC with a detailed description of the issue. If this is a bug, they would surely be interested in addressing it.
Vince MoodyParticipantThere’s no way to do this natively within RAS. However, you can copy the XY data of your mesh computation points to the clipboard and into Excel for parsing. After you create the two 2D areas, you can paste the relevant XY points for each within the 2D Flow Area Editor. Not exactly straightforward, but totally doable. All the easier if you’re GIS savvy.
Vince MoodyParticipantThe very first line of this error message states that there is an error with the time window. Often this error is a results of an improper date format being used. You may also want to make sure that you’re using “US English” regional settings on your PC. Please review page 8-25 of the User’s Manual for discussion of appropriate date formats.
Vince MoodyParticipantThis is about as cryptic and frustrating an error message as you’ll get. I think there are a handful or reasons it might happen, and others might have some ideas as to what might help. The first thing I would do in your position would be to delete the geometry hdf file (via windows explorer) associated with this plan, and rerun everything. Sometimes the hdf file gets corrupted and creating a new one can help.
Vince MoodyParticipantHave you looked at a finer mesh resolution in the vicinity of the bridge? I think it would help you.
