November 13, 2015 at 10:28 am in reply to: Any methods to define the flow direction of lateral gate? #9569cameronParticipant
Have you tried using “Rules” for the gates to control how it operates? There is also an option to turn on flap gates for the lateral structure to control which way flow can go.
cameronParticipantI have only seen this when this problem actually occurs. Do you have more than one 1D/2D connection?
cameronParticipanthave you tried adding ineffecitve flow areas in the creek?
cameronParticipantVersion 5.0 has two solvers, Skyline/Gaussian (default) and Pardiso. There will be a new reference manual when the final release happens.
cameronParticipantHave you tried changing the sediment output options level to something else? The level is what controls what outputs are written and it might have changed in 5.0. Make sure you are also using the latest version released to the public of August 2015.
October 30, 2015 at 9:13 am in reply to: Modeling skewed bridge piers in HEC-RAS/bridge replacement/parallel structures #9551cameronParticipantWhat I have done sometimes is to actual skew the data outside of HEC-RAS and then add it in (XS and Bridge data). Some times it is easier and you have more control over what it does.
Another option since the bridge does not overtop is to not model it using a bridge, but just model the piers using blocked obstructions. You would need to add more cross-sections through the bridge so you can pick up where each pier/abutment begins and stops. Doing this would allow you to not have to worry about the bridge skew.
cameronParticipantIf you go the options and tolerances options in the unsteady plan pull down menu, there is a 1D/2D options tab. Set the maximum iterations to something other than zero, you will have to test out what works best for your model. Setting it to 20 would make it the most stable probably, but will add to the run time.
cameronParticipantYou can only combine them as a weir that I am aware of.
cameronParticipantDo you have a bridge or inline/lateral structure or an inflow just upstream/downstream of a junction?
cameronParticipantWhat version of HEC-RAS do you have, there are multiple betas?
cameronParticipantThis is an issue that HEC is aware of and source/sinks inside a 2D domain did not make it into the 5.0 release, but it is on their radar and will be included in a later version.
As for how you modeled it, did you have to change the time step which caused to to run slower or is it hitting max iterations? There are a few 1D/2D connection options you can adjust that may help.
cameronParticipantI would report this to HEC just so they are aware of it.
October 13, 2015 at 7:49 am in reply to: There are any easy way to export elevation-area of all the cross sections? #9532cameronParticipantNot if this will help, but what you can do is specify a water surface elevation for each cross-section. You then can take the area and reach lengths between each cross-section to come up with the volume of water for the reach.
If you want elevation-area for each cross-section, you can use the rating curve button and change the variables to what you are looking for. This will only show one cross-section at a time so you would need to copy and paste each one cross-section to excel.
October 7, 2015 at 7:35 pm in reply to: Is it possible to change the format of flood depth map (“tif instead of *flt) from RAS Mapper? #9523cameronParticipantversion 5.0 outputs *.tifs for flood depths.
cameronParticipantI try to keep the Courant Number to close as 1 as possible.
