Could someone explain what the use of ineffective flow areas is if you are running a model in steady flow? I thought its purpose is in unsteady flow, the water behind the ineffective flow area isn’t actively flowing, so it makes the conveyance area smaller. For a hydrograph that has a finite volume, that would affect storage and water levels, but in steady flow you have an infinite amount of flow/volume. Is there something else that I am missing, or my understanding is completely wrong?

    Thanks,
    Andy
