> How do I only make grid size in that location smaller?
Add a mesh refinement region. Page 3-10 in the 2D Modeling User’s Manual.
But be aware that introducing smaller cells may mean you need to user a smaller computation interval to keep the model stable. And there’s a good chance this won’t help – as Georgette mentioned, there’s a good chance your terrain isn’t actually low enough there anyway.I would instead recommend using a simple circular or rectangular terrain modification at the end of the culvert, as Georgette suggested. Start on page 97 of the RAS Mapper User’s Manual.
February 3, 2022 at 5:40 pm in reply to: Can you draw culverts either way, or is one of these wrong? #15368alister.hoodParticipant“Perpendicular” is the only way that makes sense. The culvert is going through a road embankment or similar terrain feature that acts as a barrier to flow. Normally you should draw a 2D breakline along the crest of this feature. If there is a culvert through the feature you convert the 2D breakline into a 2D connection.
The angle it crosses should match reality, so it doesn’t need to be truly perpendicular (90 degrees).alister.hoodParticipantReturn-Path:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=”UTF-8″Hi,
It is a single band raster storing the value of V*D. I can’t remember
trying to load a single band raster into AutoCAD, but even if it works it
might just look all black or all white. You will want to control the
styling, probably using colour, perhaps to mimic how it looks in HEC-RAS.I guess if by “AutoCAD” you mean Map3D then that can do it. But if you mean
normal AutoCAD you will need to style it in you favourite desktop GIS (I
recommend QGIS) and export a rendered image. If you style it in QGIS, just do “Layer>Save As”, select “Rendered image”
and save as tiff or jpeg.
If you save as tiff, make sure to add a create option called “TFW”, with
value “YES”.
Once you have loaded the image into AutoCAD you can use the freeware
utility called georefimg, which reads the worldfile and moves the image to
the correct location and scale.Regards.

Personally I don’t like the “high roughness” approach, so I either
rasterize the buildings and merge with the terrain, or if I am lazy
sometimes I can model them satisfactorily just by using weirs. Also, be aware that:
– Just rasterising buildings and merging them with your terrain won’t make
them act as a barrier to flow unless you use a very small cell size;
typically in HEC-RAS you would use a cell size at least as large as most
buildings, in which case you might need to mess around with refinement
regions and break lines to try to get it right.
– Similarly, the high roughness method would require very small cells as
HEC-RAS just applies a single roughness to each cell.Regards,
