In HEC-RAS, the view display of an inline structure and all other included features (weirs, culverts, gates….) are relative to the upstream XS only. The question now is how to insure right positioning of downstream centerline stations of an opening (something like a culvert barrel )?. I was surprised when by chance found that the DS centerline station of a culvert is blocked by the XS downstream to it but the model didn’t crash and ran smoothly? any clues?

For one dimensional flow the location in the cross section doesn’t actually matter that much. As long as some part of the cross section is lower than the culvert.

If you are doing 2D flow and the outlet is below the face/cell at that location, RAS will flag it with an error message.
