I have a stream flowing into a reservoir. I want to model what would happen to the stream (upstream of the reservoir) depending on how fast/slow the reservoir waters are released. Can I model the stream steady-state with a Rating Curve as the downstream boundary condition, representing area/flow for the pond?
I tried this, and the results appear unrealistic (i.e. the upstream inundation boundary decreases as flow releases decrease downstream, which is the opposite of what I would expect). Trying to model this as unsteady is giving me too many errors, and I do not need very detailed results – also, time is limited. I just need a general concept of about how much the upstream inundation boundary would change according to downstream variable tailwater conditions.
Thanks!
