I am trying to run an unsteady flow model and I keep getting the following error messages:
    – “Maximum iterations of 40 at:” and then there is a list of several cross sections.
-“Minimum error exceeds allowable tolerance at” and then there is a cross section listed.

I keep getting the red bar and my model hasn’t been able to get past the first three hours.

I thought that maybe some of my cross sections were too close together and it was causing instability but now I have deleted over half of my cross sections and I keep getting these error messages. I’m all out of ideas on how to fix this.

Can anyone help me with this?

What is the timestep for the model? Try lowering it to see if the model becomes stable. Have you tried using a minimum flow for the inflow hydrographs, adjusting the HTAB parameters, adjusting ineffective areas so the active top width have a smooth transition between cross-sections, or pilot channels?

Right now I have a time step of 10 minutes but I will try to lower it. I have entered in a minimum flow for all my hydrographs. The only HTAB parameter I adjusted was the number of iterations, I increased it to the maximum amount. And I haven’t adjusted ineffective flow areas but I will try that as well. Thank you for all the suggestions I’ll let you know how they worked out!
