I have a steady state model that gives me the following error message when I try to run it:
“An error occurred while reading the number of sections at cross section at river station in reach Review your data at this location for completeness and consistency”.
The simulation does not finish. I have tried generating a log file, but the log file is essentially empty, suggesting that the model simulation is terminated before the simulation starts.
The error message does not specify the location of the error. The cross section, river station and reach entries are blank in the error message. I have iteratively been through the geometry and have isolated the error to an upper section of the model reach, but I have not been able to identify a specific cross-section that may be the source of the error.
I have also tried running the model in HEC-RAS versions 4.1.0 and 3.1.3, but I receive the same error message.
The model was built manually from survey data and then geo-referenced afterwards, so the cut width does not match the cross-section width at all cross sections. So I tried removing all geo-referencing information but that made no difference.
The model is of a large, concrete channel, mostly rectangular in shape. Portions of the channel are covered, so some cross-sections include lids. However, a previous version of the model – the existing system – which did include some cross-sections with lids ran without any trouble. The model does not include any junctions, bridges, inline structures or lateral weirs.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem might be? Is it possible that this could be a bug in the HEC-RAS code? Any assistance would be really appreciated.
