RAS Mapper and the geometry data editor do not triangulate using the same order of operations and I am not sure why. Lets say for example the following items are in a model:
-Breaklines
-SA/Conn (bridges and inline weirs)
-BC lines
-Refinement regions
If you go to RAS Mapper and expand in edit mode 2D Flow Areas and right click on “perimeter” and select “generate mesh using all breaklines” you will then get all items retriangulated but with many red cell errors along the SA/Conns. Now, while still in RAS Mapper, select SA/Conn and enforce them, you will still have multiple errors. If you do this by pressing 2D flow areas to generate the mesh instead of the perimiter, the same thing will happen.
Using that same geometry, if I go to the geometry data editor and select edit 2D flow areas, and first select “generate points with all breaklines” THEN using the button underneath that, by “generate points on selected breaklines (and structures)” and when prompted to select which lines, if you scroll all the way to the bottom RAS separates breaklines from structures so only select structures and NO breaklines, this will now properly enforce structures with no red cell errors. But now you dont have your refinement region in, and then have to go back to RAS Mapper and enforce refinement regions only and no red cell errors will occur.
Its a pretty tedious process and I wish HEC would work on making this process more seamless as well as documented. I understand HEC is doing away with geometry data editor in the future and intend to do all of editing in RAS Mapper, but they should still work the same in the meantime.
