Too many connections. Reduce the number of connections to NCON_STORE_MAX

I am currently working on a 1D/2D combined model. that has 6 2D Flow Areas and 37 internal connections. I just tried running the geometry preprocessor and received an an error message that has me stumped.

The storage area 40028
has too many connections. Reduce the number of connections
to NCON_STORE_MAX.
Error Accepting the preprocessor files.

Since my model has only has 37 internal connections I’m at a loss what might be causing it to hang up.

Are you able to use 5.0.4? Refinement regions may allow you to use fewer 2D flow areas.

The model in question is a 1D/2D combined model. I have the 2D FAs in either the left or right overbanks with lateral structures connecting the 1D to the 2D domain. The refinement regions feature won’t help the multiple 2D FAs for this particular geometry layout.

Does anyone know if there is there a hard limit to the number of internal connections HEC-RAS can handle? Is the number of connections from this error message related to just SA/2D Area Connections or is it also lumping in lateral structure connections?
