Surge wave analysis problem.

Dear All,
I’m an new user of HEC RAS and coming from a filed of pressure transient analysis (hydropower). I want to make a surge wave analysis from closing of gates in a simple rectangular channel. I found only one old topic on this from 2013
My questions is the following:
– does the model need a storage area (upstrema or downstream)?

There is no reqirement to include a storage area in the system. Have modeled a few surges with RAS comparing RAS results with laboratory data.
