Hi guys, i hope you can help me solve this problem.
I’m new with Hec-Ras, this is my first project so maybe the question is stupid but i can’t figure it out how to solve it on my own…
I need to draw my river on a background image so whai i did basically is this:
First of all i opened a new project and created a random line in geometry data (which my intent was to modify later after the matching) and saved it. Then i opened RAS Mapper, loaded a prj file to set my Coordinate System (WGS84) and added a web imagery service as google satellite. I set finally the association in RAS Mapper with the geometry data and once back in the Geometry editor i selected the layer i wanted to view in the background. No need to say that it didn’t showed anything up so i went back to RAS Mapper and the problem in my opinion are basically two. I think geometry data is automatically generated in the origin of WGS84 system and it is completely out of scale, because in Ras Mapper if i zoom to the geometry layer it brings me in a blank window where i can see only the river i draw in the editor but if zoom out a little bit with the mouse it appears the sattellite layer, precisely in an equatorial point in Africa.
To solve this i tried to use the arcgis addon HEC-GeoRAS to draw a shapefile on my river and then try to export a RAS file but i’m missing something because when i import it in Hec Ras i have a straight line in a blank page again…
i really don’t have any idea how to make this feature work out properly, any ideas to help me out?
i apologize for my english if i wasn’t very clear!
EDIT: i solved the problem loading a dtm file which it was loaded in the geometry editor allowing me to draw directly on the map
