Hi Group,
I’m new to HEC-RAS and running a 2D model. While the model computations are going, what does this button at the bottom do: “Take Snapshot of Results”?
The simulation will take several hours to finish. Is it possible to view the results in RAS Mapper before the simulation ends (and without stopping it)?
Just press it and see what happens…. sometimes you need to take risks and suffer a little to learn… the suffering makes sure the learning is embedded in the brain for life…
– Let’s say your RAS model was called ‘BigLake’
– Your first plan would be named ‘BigLake.p01’
– The results file for your first plan (the file that the RasMapper application displays as depth/velocity/WSE rasters) would be called ‘BigLake.p01.hdf’ when the solver finished the simulation
– Pressing ‘snapshot of results’ during simulation would create a special file called ‘BigLake.p01.snapshot.hdf’ and save it in the same folder with the plan file and the results file
– This is a results file that contains data only to the point in time when you pressed ‘snapshot of results’
– If you rename the ‘BigLake.p01.snapshot.hdf’ to ‘BigLake.p01.hdf’, the mapper will read the snapshot results
