    Good evening, my name is Matteo, a student of Florence.
    Can you explain me what is S longitudinal slope—-page B-7 (table B-2) in appendix B of the Hydraulic reference manual?
    I’ve got 4 cross section as show in page B-1: i need slope to determine an initial estimate of the expansion reach length……i read some examples in applications guide and the manual used the formula:

    S=(x[ft])/(y[ft])*(5280ft/mi)

    but i don’t understand what is x and y numbers.

    Thank you for all..
    Matteo

    longitudinal slope is the legnth along a reach divided by the change in water surface elevation (more precisely the change in energy elevation) over that length. x is the length, y is the elevation change.
