I have been performing some very simple tests to compare the 2D model to 1D. I ran a long, straight, uniform reach (prismatic channel) with both 1D cross sections and then 2D grid. I am finding that if the channel is wide and shallow that the 2D model computes depths and velocities very close to normal depth. However, if the channel becomes narrow and deep, the 2D model has difficulty and does not match normal depth.
I am wondering if the 2D model is simply not suitable for modeling deep, channelized flow. Is anyone aware of anyone calibrating a 2D grid to a 1D model?
