I’ve noticed some challenges with the shear stresses computed by HECRAS 2D. In my current model, the values computed for cells that are partially inundated tend to be unreasonably high (50 lbs/sft or greater).

In the past this has been isolated to the leading and trailing limb of the hydrograph as regions wet and dry. I’ve worked around that by selecting a representative timestep. However, in the most recent model, this doesn’t completely resolve the challenge as the transition between the floodplain and channel is showing unreasonable shears through the reach.

I have tried adjusting my grid sizing and spacing to minimize the number of cells that are partially inundated but it doesn’t seem to make a noticeable difference.

Any advice or recommended alternative for computing shear stresses in the 2D platform?
