    Hello!
I’ve been trying out HEC-RAS 2D for some sediment and flow modeling and haven’t been able to find the answer to the following: Does HEC-RAS have any scheme to account for secondary helical flow at river bends? And if so, is there any adjustment parameter similar to the Delft3D Espir parameter? I understand that as a depth-averaged model no actual secondary flow is simulated, but I’d like to know if/how it is accounted for, especially when viewing sediment results at bends.
    Thanks!

    Hi Libby,

I’ve never used Delft3D, but I know RAS does have some options for modeling turbulent flow and eddies. They are in the Computation Options and Tolerances section of a Plan. If you google “RAS eddy viscosity” and “2D Computation Options and Tolerances RAS” then you can get the RAS help pages to come up. Sorry for some reason I can’t get the links to work here.

    Thanks,
    A
