I am following a tutorial by The RAS Solution on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-nmV-wSoS4&t=1449s) on how to create a river reach. At around 23:10 in the video, the instructor is quickly creating vertices by clicking along the river. However, when I try to recreate this step, my computer loads very slowly and I end up having to wait over a minute between clicking each point. I’m not sure if this is an issue specific to me or if anyone else has experienced this. One theory I have is that my terrain file is too large (60,887 kb) and may be causing the program to run slowly. I downloaded my geotiff terrain file from usgs and it covers an area much larger than what I need, but I’m not sure how to crop a geotiff file while still maintaining the file quality. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Mikayla. Do you keep the satellite image layer on? This generally slows down the rasmapper. Also, wouldn’t you be able to work with a smaller terrain, limited to the area you will simulate? This can be done, for example, in QGIS. I am not referring to decreasing terrain accuracy, but to cropping the image so that it is limited to just the region of interest. Another aspect: are you working on an SSD or a conventional hard disk? Consider working on an SSD; this greatly speeds up the processing and reading time of data by HEC-RAS.
Hope these starter tips help you.

Additionally, to crop the terrain you can use the idea put in this video: https://youtube.com/shorts/1GWINC3Txi8?feature=share

Hi Eric, thank you so much for your response. I followed the video link you sent which is exactly the type of terrain crop that I was hoping existed within the program. I think it may have helped marginally, but unfortunately it didn’t seem to solve the issue completely. I also noticed that the RASMapper slowness issue only occurs when I am in edit geometry mode. I’ll keep looking for a solution and will update if I find one.

I need the time-series outputs at a few cross-sections to be saved as a txt file. I need help for searching and calling the right parameters from .hdf files
