    Hi,

I’m looking to create a 2D precipitation model. I’m interested in surface water flowing into a development boundary, however as all rainfall falling on site will be stored in the local drainage system I do not want to rain on the site area directly.

Is there a way I can efficiently represent this in HEC-RAS? In flood modeller the rainfall area is represented through a shapefile, whilst HEC-RAS appears to only allow rainfall on a 2D perimeter? My initial thoughts were to have a separate 2D perimeter for the site with a 2D connection but that does not seem to work as HEC-RAS does not allow for islands within the 2D perimeter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You could simply make gridded precipitation that covers only your area of interest (or make gridded precipitation over the whole area and assign value 0 over development boundary) and use that as your precipitation input (unsteady flow data > meteorological data >gridded precipitation).
