    hi everyone,

sorry if someone already made the question but i couldn’t be able to find other posts on the same topic.

I have to model a river reach crossed by some inline structures (forgive my poor explanation but i’m poor with technical english). These structures are equipped with radial gates which in the project scenario are meant to stay completely closed during the simulation. Which is the best wayto model it ? It makes sense to insert a radial gate even if this is meant to stay closed all the time ?

Second, assuming i’m gonna insert a radial gate, i have an issue with the dimensional coefficients since i refer to the SI Units system. Where can i find some reccomended values? I’ve checked the ven te chow’s book but the form of the equation seems different

Thank you in advance for everyone who will help me

EDIT: i’ve found a comment under this article on The Ras Solution Blog.

For what i can understand it says that exponents are unitless and the result is the same in flow terms. Actually i can’t understand how the result is the same, the equation is non linear and the dimensional factors have exponents. How can i obtain the same result passing through a linear operation as the change of unit system?

I don’t know maybe i got it wrong, i’ve tried to do the maths too and i’m not getting the same flow

Btw i’m considering of modeling this case not with a radial gate since they’re fully closed and so i won’t have any flow under the gate. Still i’d like to solve and understand this for futures models

If the gates are not meant to open and you are not simulating any type of breach, then i would model it as a vertical weir. The shape of a radial gate is to insignificant compared to a flat vertical wall.

    thanks for your answer,

yes i thought that too so i removed the radial gate, still i’d like to understand if those coefficients used in the formula to avaluate the flow under a radial gate are unit dependants or not.
