    Hello!

I am currently mainly analysing my 2D simulation results of different variants by reading the WS and Inflow BC out of the .hdf-file using python.

Besides the Water Surface in different locations and the inflows BC, also the flow in several locations is important to analyse in my case.

Inside RASMapper I use Profile lines for this but analysing many different runs at once, I would like to step back from manually exporting this and also use the .hdf-file. Is this somehow possible? I can’t fine any entries for flow besides the inflow BC, but at the same time the structure is not fully clear.

    Best regards
    Peter

Any other way of extracting flows from inside my 2D Flow Area without manually openening RASMapper, drawing profile lines and copy pasting the result tables to a text-file would be highly appreciated 🙂

I have a proficient engineer here in python that investigated the same process. Short answer is NO. It seems that RAS Mapper calculates Q on the fly based on cell orientation to your profile line so it is by default not stored in the regular HDF file. There is a separate HDF file created once the profile line data is calculated but still….. Unfortunately…this is a limitation

Thank you for your answer! In which hdf-file is it stored after the processing in RasMapper? I expected it in the postprocessing.hdf but it was not in there.

This extractiom afterwards is not ideal but would still be less work and imo less prone to errors than the manual copy pasting.

Anyone else having an answer to this question? 🙂

Sorry no, that’s what I meant, the Post Processing still does not contain Q. It still is always calculated on the fly each time the user requests the software to plot Q

Does anyone know, if this is different in HEC-RAS 6? I am still using 5.0.7

I am using Version 6.1 and trying to do the same – I do not see where values at profile lines are stored within the HDF file and I wonder if there is an output option to write the values at profiles lines to the hdf file to then be able to extract them. I have not found the solution yet, has anyone made progress on this issue?

I asked the same question on this post and Chris replied that unfortunately he doesn’t think there is a way to get output specifically on a profile line from the HDF file. https://therassolution.kleinschmidtgroup.com/ras-post/controlling-hec-ras/#comment-8650

Why don’t you just create a 2D connection line where you want to extract the discharge? It would then be stored in the dss file.
