Principles of Cut lines cross sectional design

Could anyone guide me about the principles of river cutlines for cross sections?
How many cross sections we should consider for river?
How long should the length of cross section be?
When we should make cut lines dog leg? Are they related to elevation of the ground around the river?
Are curves influence the quantity of cross sections design?

I appreciate if anybody introduce me any reference for those item or can help me here.

when we use hec-georas to design cutlines, does hec-geo ras draw any automatic cutlines?
