    Hi,

I’m trying to run an unsteady flow simulation on a relatively simple model, with a storage area, connected through a lateral structure (weir), and a culvert further downstream. I’ve managed to solve some earlier errors but I can’t find a way through this one:

“Water Surface Tolerance outside of range [0.0000001 to 0.06].
Storage Area Tolerance outside of range [0.0000001 to 0.06].”

What does this mean? How can it be fixed?

    thank you!

    Hi,

Same problem here, calculation does not even start and I am getting

“Water surface Tolerance outside of range
Storage Are Tolerance outside of range”

Even if I don’t even have a storage area in my geometry… did you find the cause of the problem?

I came across the same thing also in converting a HEC-RAS 4.1 model to 5.0.3. I un-checked the Unsteady Flow Analysis => Options => Check Data Before Execution option and it will run. What are the consequences of leaving this option OFF?

David, I came across this with my middle-Mississippi model 4.1 to 5.0.3 conversion as well. In the Unsteady Flow Analysis window under Options -> Calculation Options and Tolerances… I discovered the Water surface calculation tolerance was set to 0.5ft. I lowered this below the max of 0.2 and RAS 5.0.3 executes just fine.

It seems like when our models were set up or converted from DWOPER/FLDWAV, the modelers had lower expectations on the accuracy of calculations. Or maybe to keep runtimes down, they deemed a half foot of instability as acceptable. Somehow RAS 4.1 was ok with it, but RAS 5 is not.
