Hi Chris.G., I bought your book “Breaking the HEC-RAS Code”, I have found the 268 output variables in Appendix E, but it didn’t contain any water quality variables which I care most.
And from your book, I learnt that the Output_NodeOutput and Output_ReachOutput can also retrieve the 268 hydraulic variables, but without any water quality variables.
If I want to retreive my water quality variables, which HECRASController Class can I use? Or, is there any other way that I can retrieve the water quality variables from the water quality output files?
Thank you very much!

Thanks for getting my book. Unfortunately, the HECRASController does not have any procedures that retrieve water quality output. And the water quality output is stored in a binary file (*.wq##), so it’s not readable/writable as a text file. I put in a request to HEC that they add this to the HECRASController for the 5.0.2 release. Cross your fingers.

I am in the same situation as Horace, is the 5.0.3 HecRASController now able to handle water quality data?

July 13, 2017 at 8:16 pm #13514Jose DíazParticipantHi Chris,
Thank you for your time on this. In the meantime I had to go old school and extract the variables copy-pasting them to excel and coding a macro to organize the info….I hope someday HEC-team makes this available!
