    hey everyone
    i’m new to HEC-RAS
i saw some videos on youtube about simulating 2d unsteady flow
but in order to do that you have to have a terrain file (*.tiff) and projection file (*.prj)
my question is where can i find or produce those files?
    and thank you

    Hi,
    I am Omar.
You can download the ground elevation from SRTM or Aster Data.
But downloaded data will be on geographical coordinate system, so you will need to project it by using any software as Arc-Map or Global Mapper. Then, you will be able to import it in Hec-Ras

Check this website regarding SRTM data: https://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/

As I recall you can download ArcGIS for a trial period… and they’ll send you their magazine forever.
And it looks like Global Mapper can be downloaded for a trial period, too.

You could just use QGIS to project the data. QGIS is free.
