Modeling piers/bridge in 2D area

I try to model piers of a non overtopped bridge in a 2D area as a SA/2D Connection (weir option).
1. Do you have any comments on doing it that way?

For overtopping I try to model the bridge openings as weir with culverts, like it is recommenden here:

2. How can I deal with triangular openings? If I model the opening as a “box” it is not representative. Could you give any comment on that topic? Thanks!
