    Hi Chris,

I have an interesting problem. I am working for a small watershed council, who is looking to remove one of the final fish barriers in their park. This is a undersized culvert that has caused about 8′ of sediment to accumulate on the upstream side. Over the years, they have continued to add sections of a stand pipe to the culvert to allow water to be conveyed through an 20′ earthen berm. I am hoping to model the existing and proposed conditions with HEC-RAS. I have been struggling a little bit with the existing conditions model however. Do you have an recommendations on how to best model a stand pipe in HEC-RAS?

    Thanks,

    Alex

Since HECRAS doesn’t allow pits the only way you could do a stand pipe is to introduce a culvert with the invert set at the top level of the stand pipe and then apply a rating curve that coincides with the weir/orifice flow into the stand pipe for varying depths.
