    Good Afternoon,

I am modelling 3 river reaches side by side in a very flat area. The issue is that they are so close to each other that I cannot extend my cross sections without getting vertical walls (I believe this would mean i would be overestimating my depth). Would I be able to still model this in steady or would unsteady or 2D modelling be better? Thanks!

Try using lateral structures which link the ends of the cross sections. Use a tailwater connection type of Cross Sections of a river reach. Have the cross sections end in one reach where the cross section from the other reach starts. Or if you can go 2D.

Thanks for the suggestion! One thing I just still don’t understand is how the water gets accounted for between the 2 river reaches. Since I cannot extend the cross sections in the middle part between the 2 reaches without crossing each others flow paths, both of my cross sections have vertical walls. If I add a levee, what will that do? How will this help with determining the depth in the “middle section.”

    Thanks!

If you have lateral structures between each reach then the flow will be able to go from one reach to the next.
