Hey, I am in serious need of help.

I am currently in the process of creating a river flow model but I can’t figure out how to import a jpeg file or a GIS image into HEC-RAS. I have tried using the ArcWorld Imagery but it can’t go into enough detailed zoom.

Previously I would just add the file in Hec-Ras 4 but i dont know how to do it in HEC 5

    Cheers

Any Map Layer you add in RAS Mapper is available in the Geometry Editor window as well. Add the layer in Mapper, and in the Geometry Editor you can turn each layer on or off by clicking the Background Pictures button (looks like a quad sheet on the far right).

When I change the file selection to images (*.*), import the jpeg and then select the file to be displayed in RAS Mapper nothing happens and an error appears stating that it is not georeferenced. Even when I uses georeferenced images from GIS the picture does not appear on RAS Mapper.

I must be missing something glaringly obvious but am still learning my way around the software.

    Thanks heaps

Interesting. I gave it a shot and had a hard time getting it to recognize the projection for a georeferenced jpeg as well. Not sure if I’m missing something either, but I know it works for .img and .tif, which use a .prj file. Could you convert your filetype for your background image to one of these formats?

    It works. Thanks a lot.

It may be a problem with setting the extent of the plot area.

    I resolved in:
Set Schemtic Plot Extent in Geometry Data.
In geometry extent choose “Set To Computed Extent”.
The top, bottom, right and left coordinates of the raster will be adopted for visualization.
