I modeled a lake upstream of a dam as a storage area using elevation versus volume curve method. Breaching the dam in HEC-HMS for this situation of a high tailwater is not recommended. You can see from the graph below that there is reverse flow from the downstream tailwater to the storage area. Does anyone has such a situation and how did you model your dam breach.

Your graph is showing the inflow into the reservoir. This means a negative inflow is flow leaving the storage area due to the breach.
