Hello, I’m trying to model a “T” intersection of a street curb and gutter to determine if the water coming in perpendicular to the curb will “jump” the curb. After trying multiple ways of modeling this I’ve decided that using a junction with converging flows would be the best way. However, I receive a warning message that says, “The junction momentum weight force was very large. Due to the large value of the weight force, the program ignored the weight force during the momentum calculations.”

Has anyone received this warning before and is there a way to get the program to account for the weight force? Is there a better way to model a “T” intersection and account for the momentum of water making the 90 degree turn?

    Thanks!

HEC-RAS is a one dimensional model and generally does not account for forces due to change in direction. (The force balance method at a junction does.)
Would it not be safer, in terms of understanding the calculations, to do a manual calculation of the force balance equation?

    I will try that, thanks!
