    Hi all,

I am looking for a general reference to help me track down the specific reason that an error is occuring and what parameters within the RAS model may be affecting it. For example, when the energy equation can not balance, an explanation of the various scenarios that may be occuring to cause the model to not converge…potentially numerical estimation issues, bad geometry, unrealistic parameter selection, etc.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    thanks,
    Lisa

As far as general references go, I think your best bet is to attend a HEC-RAS class since they will supply you with materials that talk about common troubleshooting for model stability. In addition to that, you get one-on-one time with the developers. So to answer your question, there’s a “Troubleshooting with HEC-RAS” section in the HEC-RAS Users Manual, but outside of that, I doubt there’s a quick reference guide to troubleshooting general issues.

What has gotten me out of a bind a number of times in HEC RAS is to copy and the error message into google with quote marks. No gurantee but there is a fair that will lead you to a document or site where possible remedies will be discussed. In fact that is how I found this site.

I found this document very useful.
