I am currently trying to perform a dam break analysis for a large irrigation basin. The adjacent creek that the basin will drain into crosses the Erie Canal in upstate NY via an aqueduct. The creek is fairly large and the aqueduct has severely limited capacity underneath it. So on any storm larger than a 1 year storm, the creek overflows into the Erie canal. I am trying to figure out two things: 1. Is it possible to model the canal that crosses the creek as an aqueduct and 2. should I be adding storage for the flow that enters the canal as it is very flat. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would try this by modelling the aqueduct as a culvert. you could calculate the capacity of the aqueduct and then use an equivalent culvert size or the outlet rating curve. the overflows would then be directed to the creek below.
