    Hey everyone,

Currently I have an area with many dams. What I would like to do is to control their gates. I have the whole area in one 2D flow area, so the DW and US of the dam is in the same 2D flow area. Creating different 2D flow areas isn’t rational and will take too much time. Does anyone know if it is possible to control the gates with 2 different reference points (one being on the US side of the dam and the other one being on the DS side of the dam), while both of them being in one 2D flow area. Ideally, I would like to assign 2 points or may be cells (1 in US and DS sides each), the elevation of water where will be telling the model to open or close the gate. If anyone has idea about potential solutions, I would be really grateful to hear it.
    Mfg,

Consider using Reference Points. You may have to operate the gates using Rules though.

    Dear Mr Goodell,

thanks for your answer. I can’t seem to find any mentioning of reference points in HEC-RAS manual. Can you please point at literature or other references, where I can learn more about the use of Reference Points.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Nurlan
