    Hi,

I am Sumaiya from Bangladesh.I am doing my undergrade thesis using HECRAS
2D. As to warm up i am doing a simple project. I have generated data of
X,Y,Z co-ordinate ( length, with and elevation). My questions are:

    1. Can HECRAS-2D simulate steady flow?
    2. Can i run my project without using Ras Mapper?
    3. I have data of Weir in my project, how i add the weir data in HECRAS 2D?
    4. Is Terrain data is mandatory?

I will be very much thankful if you answer my questions.

    Have a nice day.

    Regard,
    Sumaiya

    1. RAS 2D does not have steady flow. You could do an unsteady run with a constant flow and eventually it should settle down to a steady answer.

    3. You can add a weir using the SA/2D Area connection option.

2 & 4. You need Terrain data and you need Ras Mapper to setup the terrain and look at output.

I am not an expert on terrain issues. There may be other posters on this site that can provide better answers.

    To set the projection:
From Ras Mapper, select Tools and select Set Projection for Project…

You may want to look at the User’s manual for HEC-RAS 2D flow.

If you have a TIN in GIS, you need to convert it to a raster using one of the tools in ArcMap or similar. If you have a TIN in Microstation format, I generally convert it to a landxml file, import it into GIS as a TIN, and convert to a raster.
