    Dear RAS Solution users,

Is there a maximum terrain file size (*.FLT) that RAS Mapper in HEC-RAS 4.1 can import? My FLT surface is approximately 2.15 GB and I receive the following error when importing:

    “Floodplain Mapping

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.”

I have applied the appropriate projection, so I’m at a loss for what is causing the problem. Any help or insight as to what’s causing this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Chris

Resolved: No limitations regarding FLT surface file size is covered in the User’s Manual. After trimming the surface file and exporting as a sub-2GB FLT file (i.e., 1.6 GB), RAS Mapper was able to import and perform the “Floodplain Mapping” function. Unofficially, it seems RAS Mapper from HEC-RAS 4.1.0 has a 2 GB filesize limit for FLT terrain surfaces.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I believe HEC-RAS was developed as a 32bit application. Unless it was compiled specifically to address more RAM it will be limited to the 2 GB memory like most 32 bit applications.
