1. I am trying to import an existing shapefile that represents the river centerline – I am sure there is a way to import it to the geometry section of HEC-RAS, but I have not figured it out yet. Can you please point me to the right direction?
2. What if I don’t have an existing shapefile, and if the centerline that I need to digitize is a lot. Is there a way in HEC-RAS or maybe other GIS tools to automate the digitizing process?
You can complete this in RAS Mapper as your first step in a geometry build.
Open RAS Mapper and on the left expand Geometry. Then select your geometry right click and edit. Then expand the geometry until you see “Reach” then right-click on this and you will see and import option
Hi I’ve had a similar problem and followed the above advice but unfortunately when i come to digitise the river string RAS mapper just hangs on me and freezes.
I’ve tried loading an example dem from the tutorials and don’t have a problem.
When I expand the geom tree for the river i can add flow lines etc but as soon as I try to add the river string it freezes. I can also add x sections without a problem.
I’ve set the projection and the dem is 12,000kb so not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Can anyone offer some advice please?

Paul
