    Hi,

I just updated to the new HEC-RAS 5.0.0 Beta (August 2015). I really like most of the tools & additions. I just noticed something a little bit scary though and was wondering if anyone else had noticed the same problem or knew why it may be happening.

I was clipping my crossing sections in order to add a small 2D area for an urban section of my study and noticed that the “Current Terrain” was different than my HEC-GEORAS cross sections I had originally made when developing the 1D model. The cross sections look almost exactly alike in terms of shape but are almost truncated. I have added a photo for example. The difference is scarily significant: The cross section from GEORAS is 1052 m and the current terrain shows it as 742 m. This is over 300 m total difference and represents a significant amount of capacity. (Note: I have not moved or adjusted the original HEC-GEORAS cross sections & the terrain file is the exact same file I used for HEC-GEORAS)

Quite curious to know where the problem is coming from and if others have done anything to try to fix it. I also worry because I created new cross sections at the downstream end of the river and used the “Cut from Current Terrain” in order to create the cross section geometry. On another note, I’m wondering if this also affects the results of the 2-D portions?

    Thank you,
    Hali

I would report this to HEC just so they are aware of it.

HEC is aware of the graphical error and won’t be there in the final version. In the mean time if you close and reopen the geometry it should show correct. It just isn’t updating the geospatial coordinates of the section when you add or subtract points.
