Does anyone have a suggestions on how to model a gated culvert? Is there a way to link together an inline gate with a culvert in HEC-RAS? If not are there any other work arounds that anyone is aware of?

I would put a inline weir with gate at the upstream face of the culvert. You’ll need a xs between the weir and culvert.

I was thinking about doing this, but the cross-section in between presents a problem. From a practical standpoint you need to be able to block out the flow area so that it is same as the combined opening of the culvert and the gate setting. I also feel like this might be doing some strange things in the hydraulic computations, but have not thought through it yet to determine if it is a valid.

If it is a rectangular culvert (box), you can use the inline structure option and get equivalent loss coefficients. If circular or other shape, the traditional loss coefficients are not applicable since the gated portion would change the shape of the inlet/outlet (depends on if you put the gate).
