I have the wierdest thing happening in my model. It is an unsteady model with a single hydrograph at the upstream section. It is a 24hr hydrograph and a 24hr model. The peak flow happens at hour 12ish at about 700. The model is running and says stable but for some reason the HGL continues to increase through the entire model after hour 12 with almost 1600 flow at the end. I have no clue why the flow is steadily increasing and it can’t be attenuation because the beginning section steadily increases too. Anyone seen this or have any ideas?

This might be an issue with the initial conditions. Let’s assume that there are no lateral inflows to the reach that you are modeling. Therefore, the simulation should start with a situation in which the inflow equals the outflow and that condition is maintained for the travel time thru the reach. Suspect that the downstream boundary condition and the initial flows do not match – and the model is trying to adjust while the inflow hydrograph is occurring. To check this possibility, use some warm-up time steps and attach a constant flow equal to the initial flow to the beginning of the imposed upstream hydrograph.
