    Hello everyone,

I am building a 1D model of a small drainage ditch. the drainage ditch runs parallel to a roadway and is somewhat undersized. The Ditch discharges through a small culvert (think an service entrance 12″ culvert) that is to be replaced. The roadway side of the ditch is much higher than the other side of the ditch, as such, when the ditch is at capacity, the extra flow overtops the lower embankment and drains it another much lower ditch located east of my ditch and does not renter my ditch again. The overtopping starts occurring ~180 feet upstream of the culvert that is to be replaced. I wanted to see what is the right way to model the flow existing the system.

    Thanks

This sounds fairly straight forward. Good description. I would use a lateral structure with an “out of system” tailwater.

    Another follow up.

Currently, I am terminating my XSs at the top of the ditch’s bank that is being overtopped. Should I extend my XSs beyond the top of bank or is it okay to leave them where they are and just add the lateral structure.
