    Hello

I am trying to model an irrigation network on Hec Ras unsteady module. there is a main canal and various distributaries offtakes from it. The head regulator of each offtake is gated and is modelled as lateral weir in the main canal reach. This offtaking distributary is connected to its own channel geometry using the LATERAL WEIR – TAIL WATER CONNECTION option.

This means that the water flows in the main canal and the lateral structure withdraws its share and then water routes through this distributary. Hope the scenario is clear. Now, for each gated distributary, rule based conditions have been implemented. Problem is that there can be instances when a particular offtaking distrbutary is closed and practically no water should be flowing through it. When this happens, i want hec ras to completely ignore the offtaking geometry and exclude it from computations to avoid crashing. But i have noticed that selecting outflows as OUT OF SYSTEM even does not have any impact and the whole reach is considered in the computations.

Is there any way a specific reach could be ignored in the Hec Ras computations?

You would have to delete the reach you don’t want from the geometry or allow a very small amount of water to flow in it so it does not crash.
