I have an existing model with a storage area connected to a 2D flow area by a dam. I am trying to add the low-level dam outlet, a simple 2′ diameter pipe, to the model as a culvert through the dam/weir structure, but I can’t get water to flow through it. This was originally a dam breach model that runs fine, and the only thing I am changing about it is adding the outlet pipe and not breaching the dam. I feel like I am missing something that’s right in my face, but I can’t figure it out…
This model was built in HEC-RAS 5.0.3. It has a lot of features (culverts, bridges, dams) and will not function correctly in any newer version of HEC-RAS without significant modification, so I am bound to 5.0.3.
It seems this earlier version of HEC-RAS does not use GIS coordinates for culverts, instead centering the length on the dam crest. I’ve tried extending the culvert length so that in geometry editor, it clearly ends within the 2D flow area, but that did not help.
