I am modeling a culvert that is perched on the downstream end and discharges at a high velocity into a pool that is lower than the invert of the outlet. The velocity of the water exiting the culvert should be high and shooting out of the culvert barrel along the channel centerline and creating recirculating eddies on either side? This model shows it coming up out of a single cell and spreading radially outward, which doesn’t match what actually happens. Should the model be able to show the downstream velocity? I’m running the model with full momentum equations. The water surface and velocity inside the culvert also isn’t shown in the profile through the culvert. Is there a way to show that?

Remember that a culvert in 2D is connected to ONE cell upstream and ONE cell downstream which the user defines. If you are not getting the results expected you can try to add a breakline for which the cell size would be larger than the rest of the model utilizing a cross sectional face for that cell that represents the entire width of the culvert.

As far as internal WSEL and velocities for the culvert itself, i dont believe there is a way currently to mimic a 1D output for culvert hydraulics

Thanks, this is helpful. I’ll look into the breakline approach.
