I know that in previous versions of hec ras, intersecting cross sections were not permitted. However, I’m wondering if the newer versions (I’m using 5.0.7) allow for cross sections (which were created on inroads) to intersect with one another.
The area I need to model is very tricky and even with doglegging, I don’t think I’ll be be able to create the necessary sections without intersecting them.
It doesnt have to do with the software version. Its the simple reason that overlapping cross sections are double accounting for volume among other things.
In locations that it is absolutely necessary you should add things like blocked obstructions to minimize double accounting for variables within the hydraulic properties of the cross section.
