    Hi friends,
I have two questions for you:

    1. How do you solve a calibration of donwstream routing for dam break wave? Do you use rating curve or water marks? In my opinion the rating curve is unusable, because RC is defined generally for channel. I design to use the high water mark.- Do you agree with me?

    2. The velocity distribution in the cross section . Can I have the most velocity out channel? In my opinion the velocity distribution depends factors: surface roughness, land cover (vegetation), channel irregularity, channel alignment, obstruction and shape-size channel.

    thank you for your reply

    1. I would personally use high water marks as rating curve is only valid for normal channel flow. Large flows during dam break would require large extrapolations, which isn’t quite accurate.

    2. If given a choice , I would rather present the velocity using RAS Mapper for better visualization. In dam break , the channel most likely will be over topped , so the overall velocity in this case would represent the velocity better.
