I am modeling a bridge which is overtopping. I want to find out at what flow value the bridge starts to overtop. To do so, my supervisor suggested I look at the results and determine at what flow the results begin to use pressure/weir flow.

now…the way i had the model set up, it was using the energy method for both low and high flow.
Should the highflow be set to use pressure/weir flow in a situation where the bridge is overtopping? or is energy ok? I tried both and am getting VERY different results which is concerning.

The results just say energy method at the moment before I changed the modeling method to pressure/weir flow.

Any advice or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated, too often I see questions go unanswered on these forums. My supervisor won’t be around for a while, so please please help me.

In your case it is probably best to set it to pressure/weir for high flow. Energy would be ok if the bridge is overtopped by a lot of water or if you have a perched bridge where the overbank area is a lot lower than the top of bridge.
