    Hello,

I am trying to obtain velocities through a breach of an inline structure in a piping failure scenario. Through reading the links here I have heard suggestions to take the weir flow rate divided by weir flow in the profile output table to determine the velocity through the weir which represents the breach. However, this does not seem to work for the initial timesteps where the piping failure is in orifice flow.

I noticed in the profile output options there is a “Breach Ave. Velocity” variable, however when I add it to my profile output table it is blank. Is there a run option I need to enable in order for this variable to be populated, or is there another way to get these results? It seems odd to me that the variable I am interested in exists in the output table, but its not populated by HEC-RAS. Any input on this would be helpful. I have attached a screen shot of the detailed output table showing the variables of interest.

    Thanks!
    Joey

    Hi Joey!

Did you find an answer to your question?

No I did not. I believe I just ended up using the average weir flow divided by the ave. weir area for the later timesteps, which was sufficient for my analysis. Would still be nice to have an answer for why those variables were not populated!
