I could use some input on bank station location. Is there a standard of practice on where to place them? I’m attempting to model the WS Elev of an existing flood control channel and then compare that to changes made to the cross section for the 50-year hydrograph. The changes include widening the channel on one side to a floodplain within the channel. The existing model was given and the bank stations were set at the top of the bank and the Manning’s n was the same for the entire channel. The proposed channel has increased roughness on the floodplain.
I’ve modeled the proposed one way with changing the bank station on the side with the added floodplain to where the change in Manning’s n occurs and one way by just adjusting the manning’s n horizontally. The results are different, which I assume is to the difference in how the calculations are done.
My question is which way is more appropriate? Are there recommended bank station locations?
